On my 850 dbl pumper carb (list # 4781-2) on a 451, it ended up running best with 88 jets all around, which is odd because I'm at 5400 feet, and stock jets are 80s. It should have run fine with 80s or smaller for this altitude. It was a high compression motor, with a 509 cam, ported 915s. WebJun 5, 2006 · 193 Posts. #2 · May 22, 2006. Check the advance mechanism on the distributor. If you are not altering the timing when you punch it, you will bog down, then jump right up. Some distributors are meant to use Ported vacume, while others are meant to use Manifold vacume. Check the distributor, and then re-post. L.

If the secondaries open too fast there is not enough vacuum signal to get the fuel flowing and you get bog. try wiring the secondaries shut to see if that solves the problem. It's a good idea to isolate the primaries when tuning anyway.
