I set the mod difficulty to challenging (i.e. AI also builds 40 widths etc.) but kept the game difficulty at normal. Needless to say I was disappointed as I was still easily able to steamroll Germany as the UK in 1939, just by battleplanning alone.

The ai can only deploy what units it has. If a mod calls for bigger and stronger units then it takes longer to build enough for the ai to adequately cover all of it's front.
